Either/or
It’s always one or the other. I get it, that’s how we make sense of the world. But that’s not how human beings function. That’s not how things are supposed to work. When a person isn’t able to stay strong through their hardships, it doesn’t automatically make them weak.
It makes them a human being.
When a person’s trying to pick themselves up and are left with very little to offer those around, it doesn’t mean they’re selfish. That’s just what a human being’s capacity often allows. It’s human. It’s how we’re meant to be.
When a person fails a test, it’s not because they’re stupid. Human beings aren’t either smart or stupid. That’s what makes no sense at all. And it’s unfair. It’s unfair how we deal with our feelings and qualities as though they’re some sort of mathematical equations, ignoring the fact that within every person exists an entire universe. A universe that’s different from ours, and is made up of everything that’s supposed to make it exactly what it is – unique.
I mean, I don’t see the sun out there shaming the moon for its size, or the stars feeling bad about themselves for not glowing bright enough. I only see human beings judging themselves everyday, for being (and feeling) what they’re so simply supposed to be (and feel). Humans. Humans break into tears when things get too much. Humans set boundaries when they need to protect themselves. Humans often learn their lessons, then make the same mistakes again. Humans grieve their losses. Humans feel awkward around other humans. Humans compare themselves to other humans. Humans experience days when they’re unable to get out of bed. Humans say things they later regret. Humans ask for help. Humans create terrible first drafts. Humans procrastinate. Humans get anxious and mess things up. Nothing about humans ever makes sense.
Humans only really need to stop judging themselves.
